Abstract

The long-term validity of a stratotype is dependent on the possibility of preservation of and access to the site. In archeology, the preservation of reference sections is rare. The many paleolithic sites in France and Spain did contribute to a chronology of different cultural types since 35 000yr BP by a correlation of the successions from one site to another. -from English summary
