Abstract
Bohr went to his atomic model in 1913 still based on a traditional model, but was forced to formulate very restrictive conditions for the electron orbits occurring to explain the observed discrete optical spectra ("old quantum theory"). Nevertheless, the old quantum theory provide a complete theory of spectra. For large quantum numbers were, however, asymptotic formulas, which corresponded to those of classical physics and could fill these gaps statement partially. The correspondence principle was used in this sense in the old quantum theory as a heuristic principle for the transition to classical physics (in this case, electrodynamics) to describe for large quantum numbers.
