Research Interest
What is your current occupation, and what is particularly interesting in your work? - since 2002 Professor at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg - since 2006 Director of the Institute for Transurane (ITU) (http://itu.cc.europa.eu) The ITU in Karlsruhe is a research institute of the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission. With over 300 staff members (and an annual budget of approx. € 41 million), the ITU focuses its research on: - Basic research on the physics and chemistry of actinides Safety of nuclear fuel circulation Nuclear safeguards and nuclear forensics - Teaching at a university and directing a large research institute, and the enormous creative possibilities and uniqueness of the institute itself, combine to make my work especially fascinating.
